After having their training camp this past weekend, the North Peace Navigators are ready for another NWJHL season.

Head Coach Jody Messna says they expect to be a very hard working team this season.

“I think that it’s going to be a lot of lunch pail hockey type of thing and hard workers. It’s a blue collar group which is definitely something that we’re looking forward to because we want to improve off of last year and I think the good core of players there are looking forward to playing that style of hockey as well.”

The league has two new teams in La Crete and Beaverlodge which Messna says will create some excitement in the league.

“It just adds another element of competition. A little bit more variety, stretches out some of the road games as well which makes it interesting and I think that’s exciting for the players and the fans. Throughout the year how the season goes and the standings progress, it makes it a little bit more exciting when teams are jockeying for playoff spots.”

The Navs will play pre-season games in High Level this weekend against the Sexsmith Vipers and La Crete Lumber Barons.

Their first regular season game will be in Sexsmith on September 23.
