Peace River MLA Dan Williams says there’s a lot of investments in the North in the province’s budget.

Speaking with the Trending 55 Newsroom, he highlighted the over $1.3 billion being spent on transportation.

“That includes economic corridors, highway upgrades, resurfacing, bridge replacement, interchanges. The truth is if you live in the North, you use all of that infrastructure. We live and die by the roads. We need them to be highly functioning for our hockey tournaments and visiting family and neighbours and friends, but importantly as an economic driver.”

Williams says the commitment to the La Crete bridge will provide a huge boost to the region.

“It will help economically as well. Agriculture, it will open up new corridors and access, it’s also going to play a big deal in forestry and exploration as well and energy. Never mind the sheer convenience that it will have to not have a multiple hour commute around for those residents in the area. That is something that we’re very committed to moving forward with.”

The province has $161 million planned in the budget for work on building the bridge.
