Peace River Property Tax Increase

Residents in the Town of Peace River are seeing a property tax increase in 2015.  It was part of the capital and operating budget for this year, which was passed by Town Council at last night’s meeting.  Mayor Tom Tarpey says the money is needed to help fund construction of the town’s new hockey arena.  Tarpey says it’s time for council to, quote, put its money where its mouth is.  He says they need to be able to put up some money, as they will also be asking its corporate partners to help out as well, as they’ve used the current arena for the last 50 years.  Tarpey says they can’t ask their partners to do so if they can’t pitch in money themselves.  On average, a resident will be paying about $18.30 extra per month.
