The Peace River Curling Club is meeting on Wednesday to decide whether the club will open in January or close for the season.

Club President Jody Bekevich says they surveyed they members and 25% said they wouldn’t curl this season.

“This year it looks like financially, opening the club just might not work for us. On Wednesday night we’re going to make decision and we’ve invited all of our members and the public if they want to come and learn more about our situation and give some input on what they think we should do.”

Bekevich says if they are projected to lose a minimum of $25,000 if they open, but that number would increase if they had to shut down because of another lockdown.

She adds that with the guidelines they have to follow because of the pandemic, they’ll need some more involvement from the community to have the club running this season.

“We can open the club safely, that’s not really the issue. It’s more about engaging our members to come back and be willing to pay for a full membership.”

The meeting will be at the Curling Club on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM.
