Pride Week Events In Peace River

Even though there can’t be any large public gatherings right now, the Peace River Pride Society is still celebrating pride week.

Pride Society member Autumn Hulme says the support they’ve received from the community has been growing over the years.

“We’ve been able to host this event for 10 years, and to be able to do it safely I thinks says a lot about the community. This happens year after year and it’s pretty broadly supported, we’re really grateful for the community of Peace River and neighbouring communities for the support we’ve received over the last decade.”

The Town has the pride flag up on the community flagpole on the downtown roundabout, and the society held a small “flag walk” on Saturday.

Hulme says with the restrictions on public gatherings still in effect, the events they have for this week will be done virtually.

“We’ve got a couple of small events this week, it won’t be quite as big as its been in years past but we’re pretty excited. It’s the 10th anniversary of the pride parade itself in Peace River. The first pride walk was in 2010 so we wanted something to mark the occasion.”

The two events this week are a wellness webinar on Wednesday night and a Netflix party movie night on Friday.
