The Peace Regional RCMP says there will be no charges following an investigation into a person wearing what appeared to resemble a Klu Klux Klan mask outside the post office in Grimshaw.

On January 8, a photo of the individual was shared widely over social media, which led to anti-racism protests in the town.

In its statement, the RCMP says an investigation was done, including identifying the person, interviewing witnesses and the police force concluded that there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction for any Criminal Code offense.

The Mounties say this decision was made after conducting a thorough investigation and consulting with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service Office of Special Prosecutions.

The Peace Regional Detachment says its investigation is done and there will be no further updates on this matter.
