The North Peace Hockey League had a successful season coming back from the pandemic.

League Commissioner Michael Mercredi says the fan support got stronger as the season went on.

“Right off the bat, people were craving for that hockey and it just got better and better as the season went on. Falher actually brought out two buses there for the final game in game 7, Dawson had a good fanbase, overall all the teams fans followed them. Manning had a bus in their playoff series and they filled their bus which was great to see.”

The league championship was won by the Dawson Creek Canucks, beating the Falher Pirates in seven games in the finals.

Mercredi says it was a good first season for him in the role.

“It’s a great league, it was everything I expected. Just picking up the league where it was left off before COVID there when Jack McAvoy ran the league for 40 plus year, so we’re just continuing on from what he has established. Moving forward, we’d like to see more live game updates on the website and social media is sure taking off nowadays. We’re getting there and it’s about baby steps.”

There are rumours of Hythe and High Prairie trying to get teams in the league, but Mercredi says nothing has been officially presented to the league yet.
