- At a recent meeting, Peace River Town Council has contributed over $62,000 to the demolition of the old SPCA building, adjacent to the Belle Petroleum Center.
Council has passed the Utility Rates bylaw, that will see an increase of around 10% in 2025.
Council has also directed administration to initiate a public bid process to sell the Town-owned portion of the old Lion’s Campground on the west side. - The Provincial government is reflecting on a productive year of Highway improvements, and construction. Nearly $820 million dollars was spent on more than 200 projects across the province.
In the Northwest, Paving projects on Hwy 733, south of Wanham, and on Hwy 750, Northeast of High Prairie, totalled nearly $32 million dollars.
Meanwhile, over $29 million was spent on the ongoing project to complete rehab of the Peace River Arch Bridge. - The town of High Prairie has a new Chief Administrative Officer.
David Joy has been appointed to the position, taking over from Herman Minderlein, who was present for the interim. - The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division will be looking for a new Superintendant, come the end of the school year.
Betty Turpin has announced her retirement after nearly two decades at the position. (See separate story) - Hundreds of health-care workers received notification this week that they will transition from AHS to a new agency overseeing primary care early in the new year.
The migration is part of the provincial government’s full-scale overhaul of the health system and the creation of four new organizations to oversee health-care delivery. - Hockey Alberta is trying to keep more youth players in Hockey Canada-sanctioned leagues by getting rid of association boundaries.
The provincial body is proposing removing residency-based registration, meaning a new player can register for any association of their choosing regardless of where they live. - NWJHL three stars this week….

- Still is a chance of flurries heading into this afternoon in the Northwest. Temps are still decent at around -10, and staying pretty consistant through the night tonight.
A little snow is expected for this weekend, and after that, highs in the -20’s will set in.
