May 29 2023 – The winds are quite high today but the lower temperatures are helping to reduce the fire activity. The winds are coming from the West which is pushing the fire activity around the Cenovus plant away from the plant itself. The fire does still remain active North and South of the Cenovus plant but with the cooler temperatures, hopes are high of securing that area in the coming days.
Work was completed on rebuilding the dozer guard to the East protecting the community of Chateh and structure protection crews are stationed there in the event that guard was surpassed.
Atco continues to work at restoring power and is making excellent progress along Highway 58. They are able to return to the area South of Highway 58 today to continue the work closer to the Cenovus plant to tie in their sub stations. As of today, our re-entry plans are still intact for a general re-entry this Friday June 2nd.
We had a new crew of wildland fire fighters arrive and start work today from Australia. We now have Canadian, American and Australian crews working to protect our homes with more on the way.
As always, please stay safe and we will continue to provide daily updates to keep you informed as work progresses towards our Friday re-entry goal.
