TransAlta Power Plant Delayed

Numerous projects are being put on the back-burner in Alberta’s Energy sector due to the falling oil prices.  Among the projects put on hold include a 100 megawatt power plant project, which would have been located along the Peace River near the Dunvegan community.  The project in question was being built by TransAlta Corporation.  Spokesperson Leanne Yohemas says while the project is being delayed, it won’t be forgotten.  She says they consider it a key project, adding it’s focused on growth.  Yohemas says while it makes sense to delay the project due to uncertain times, they’re still going to build it when things calm down.  She says once the facility is up, the power generated will be sold into the grid throughout the province.  This project was originally approved in 2009, and the plant was supposed to have been completed last year.  However, last May, TransAlta asked the Alberta Utilities Commission if it could delay completion of the project for nine years.  However, in a letter posted yesterday, even that timeline is now removed.
