Two vehicle collision and drive-by shooting in Wanham

Spirit River RCMP seeking public assistance with witnesses to drive by shooting and subsequent collision

Wanham, Alta.—On September 22, 2021, at approximately 4:45 a.m., Spirit River RCMP received a report of a drive by shooting at a residence located in Wanham.

While Spirit River RCMP were en-route to Wanham, they received a report of a two vehicle collision in the area of Highway 49 and Range Road 42.

Spirit River RCMP’s investigation has determined that the collision is related to the shooting incident. It is believed that shortly before the report of the shooting, a black Acura car was driven by an unknown suspect(s) related to the shooting, before fleeing the hamlet of Wanham.

At approximately 5 a.m., a dark blue F-350 pickup truck was in a collision with the black Acura car in the area of Highway 49 and Range Road 42. Upon police attendance, a third party witness that was not involved in the collision had advised police that all individuals involved in the collision had left the scene.

Spirit River RCMP’s efforts to locate the occupants of the vehicle were unsuccessful. Spirit River RCMP, along with the assistance of RCMP Police Dog Services, conducted a search of the surrounding area and a firearm was located and believed to be related to this incident.

This incident is believed to have been targeted and it is not believed there is a risk to the public.
