Viersen Wants More Financial Accountability From Feds

The federal Conservatives are calling for more financial accountability from the Liberals.

Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen say they’d like to see more funding provided to the auditor general.

“The auditor general is about $10 million short in funding. We have a larger budget than ever, we’ve spent the most money ever in Canada, and we’re calling on the government to properly fund the auditor general.”

Viersen says he also wants to see more incentives to get people working, as there are some scenarios out there where a person could make more money from the CERB program than having a regular job.

“The other side was trying to accuse us of calling people who take the CERB lazy and that is definitely not the case. We’re just saying that if you’re gonna claw back the CERB when people go back to work, they’re going to make the calculations for if free money is easier than going to work.”

The CERB program was recently extended by the Liberal government, but the extension also came with a continued suspension of Parliament which Viersen and the Tories have been critical of.
