  1. Forest areas are taking a hit for the next couple of days, with summer weather settling in.
    The rain and cooler temperatures have helped with firefighting efforts on the major blazes in the Northwest.
    But tests are coming with the warm weather, for the rest of this week.
  2. On the fire front: The Slims Creek fire north of Manning, the blaze north of Slave Lake, and the Sousa Creek inferno near Chateh, are all listed as Being Held.
    Meanwhile, the Bison Lake fire east of Manning, and the Red Earth Complex fires continue to burn at a decent pace.
  3. Environmental Field Studies are continuing with Energy Alberta, surrounding the Peace River Nuclear Power Project.
    Studies are happening from now through August on the proposed locations. Crews are collecting data related to seven studies on the proposed sites.
  4. A man charged in Fairview in relation to residential fires has entered into a Peace Bond with some of the charges.
  5. Blake Everett Lee was arrested after multiple fires in town in April. Despite conditions of the Peace Bond, Lee is still due in court in December.
  6. The Provincial Government is providing funding for infrastructure projects in the Northwest.
    Northern Sunrise County, Mackenzie County, the MD of Smoky River, plus Girouxville, McLennan and the Paddle Prairie Metis Settlement are all benefactors.
  7. Residents of Kinuso in Big Lakes County is trying to slow traffic down. A new 4-way stop has been installed into the intersection of Center Street and Swan Avenue.
    The County’s aim to help slow traffic down, especially vehicles entering and exiting the Hamlet at high speeds.
  8. Alberta’s chief electoral officer is rebuffing calls from Premier Danielle Smith and her justice minister to reverse course and sign off on a proposed referendum question on separation.
    Smith and Justice Minister Mickey Amery said that Albertans should be able to embark on gathering signatures “without needless bureaucratic red tape or court applications slowing the process.”
  9. The Toronto Blue are trying to salvage something in the four-game set in Baltimore this afternoon. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Dean Kremer.
  10. The Jays made a trade yesterday… They got reliever Seranthony Dominguez from Baltimore, right in between the games of the double-header.
    The Jays are in need of bullpen help, as the trade deadline is tomorrow.
  11. Vernon Adams Jr. is not expected to start tomorrow for the Calgary Stampeders, when they play in Ottawa.
    Adams took a hard hit in the third quarter of last week’s game against Montreal.
  12. The Northwest heatwave continues today with temps in the 30’s for the next couple of days.
    Nights are not necessarily going to be comfortable, as lows will nudge the mid teens. Digits might start cooling down by the end of the weekend.
