  1. Rodeo season in the Northwest is continuing with the 21st annual La Crete Field of Dreams Stampede, that starts today.
    The rodeo itself, plus the midway and other happenings will mark the two-day event. (Ryan Janzen Interview in separate story)
  2. As municipalities around Alberta prepare for local elections this fall, some cities are projecting higher costs and longer wait times in light of new rules set out by the province last year.
    Counting votes by hand is what every municipality will need to do this fall, and some cities are looking at costs double or triple what they spent in the 2021 municipal elections.
  3. Some current and former paramedics are raising concerns over proposed changes to emergency medical services in the province as part of a massive overhaul of the province’s health-care system.
    EMS workers are being transferred to a new provincial health entity called Emergency Health Services. The switch will take effect Sept. 1.
  4. Loni Anderson, who played a struggling radio station’s empowered receptionist on the hit TV comedy “WKRP in Cincinnati,” died Sunday.
    Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital following a prolonged illness at 79 years of age.
  5. Minor Football Associations in Valleyview High Prairie and Peace River are starting to get set for the 2025 season.
    Registration is now open for the High School and Bantam Football this fall. Camps are starting later in August, with regular season games starting just after Labour Day.
  6. Wheatbelt Baseball League finals resume this week with Game 2 tomorrow. Rycroft is in Peace River…
  7. The Toronto Blue Jays continue their series in Denver tonight. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Anthony Molina.
  8. A decent afternoon is in store for the Northwest, with sunny skies and highs in the mid to high 20’s. Lows tonight are decent as well, in the low teens.
    But the Peace and Big Lakes could get some rain and coolers temps tomorrow and Thursday. The sun will come back in time for next weekend.
