  1. The MD of Smoky River is considering to withdrawl some regional shared service agreements with the town of Falher.
    Both councils are reviewing the agreements and possible motions, which include FCSS, Libraries, the Pool, Economic Development, the Transport program and the Health Professional Attraction and Retention Committee.
  2. Valleyview is “Living that Western Life” this weekend, with the annual Crocus Hill Stampede.
    The event starts today and runs through Sunday at the Ag. Grounds. (Dawn Knapp interview in separate story)
  3. The Royal Tyrell Museum in Drumheller is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2025, but bringing exhibits to the Peace Region, and across the province.
    Pop-up exhibits are on display for a year at 10 libraries across Alberta, and that includes the Municipal Library in High Level.
  4. The rubber padding at the Splash Park in Falher is being replaced. Work is beginning next week, and will cost around $50,000.
    Despite constant repairs to it, Council decided upon a full switch, as holes and deficiencies in the rubber allowed water to get underneath.
  5. A court proceeding on a proposed Alberta separation referendum question is underway, with a judge hearing arguments to quash the review.
    Alberta’s chief electoral officer, referred the proposed question to the Edmonton court last week, asking a judge to determine whether it violates the Constitution, including treaty rights.
  6. The NWJHL has released their 2026 season schedule. Opening night is Friday September 12, with Fort St. John in Peace River and Dawson Creek in Fairview.
    Beaverlodge is in La Crete, the next night.
  7. CFL this weekend… Edmonton is in Montreal tonight, Ottawa is in Toronto and Winnipeg is in Calgary tomorrow.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend set in LA, against the Dodgers tonight. A Hall of Fame pitching matchup is on the mound. Max Scherzer goes for the Jays against Clayton Kershaw.
  9. A mix of sun and cloud is in store for this afternoon in the Northwest. Highs are in the mid 20’s, except for near 30 in the Mackenzie.
    Partly cloudy skies are in the works for tonight, with lows in the low teens. The weekend looks decent, but things cool off and possibly get wet again by Tuesday.
