- A Peace River man has been given time served, after a 2023 drug bust. Bradley Victor Morency pleaded guilty to two of six charges, stemming from the arrest in July of that year.
The co-accused, Jesse Nadeau of Grimshaw was given a conditional sentence, after pleading guilty to trafficking charges. - Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair has officially been ousted from the UCP Caucus.
Sinclair was removed for being publicly against the 2025 Provincial budget, saying too little attention was paid to rural northern communities, and too much on the big cities. - The Summer’s End Festival is happening on Saturday in Fairview, with lots of things happening. - The Town of High Prairie has financially contributed to a worthy cause. The town has donated $30,000 to the Big Lakes Child Care Society.
The money will increase child care spaces, and will help out parents at the same time. - Tim Horton’s Owner/Operator Gord Drummond is taking a hike next month for a good cause. He’s doing it in support of the Tim Horton’s Foundation Camps in September.
Drummond, who owns the restaurants in Peace River, High Prairie, Fairview and Valleyview, is getting prepared for a group hike up Machu Picchu in Peru. - The NWJHL pre-season starts tonight with one game, Sexsmith is in Beaverlodge.
Meanwhile, training camp are getting set to go in Peace River and La Crete, which happen on the long weekend, and the weekend after, respectively. - The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend set in Miami tonight. Shane Bieber starts for the Jays in his first game since being traded, and since Tommy John surgery.
- CFL this weekend… Edmonton is in Ottawa tonight, BC is in Toronto and Saskatchewan is in Calgary tomorrow.
- Mostly sunny skies are in store for the Northwest this weekend, with highs in the low 20’s. Cloudy periods are happening tonight, with lows in the upper single-digits.
Temperatures start pushing 30 degrees by Sunday.
