Canadian Union of Postal Workers Reviewing Latest Offer

Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are reviewing Canada Post’s latest offer which was presented on Friday.

The proposal is similar to Canada Post’s “final offer” from May which the CUPW rejected. Still included, is a nearly 14% wage increase over 4 years.

The new offer presented Friday incorporates the following main changes:

• Removal of signing bonuses
• Suspend job security guarantees; paving the way for layoffs
• Voluntarily exit program with up to 78 weeks pay to reduce staff
• Sets up to 500 urban and suburban post offices for potential closure

Canada Post says the new offer is within the limit of what the corporation can afford while maintaining good jobs and benefits for employees over the long term.

The CUPW argues that Canada Post has taken major steps backwards, contending the latest offer is worse than the one presented and rejected earlier in the year.

This latest offer comes on the heals of major financial losses for Canada Post, including nearly 1.3 billion in 2024.

Talks are expected to continue in the coming days, as both sides face growing pressure to find a deal that balances Canada Post’s financial challenges with workers’ calls for stability and fairness.
