Movie Monday Mentions: Roofman

Based on a true story.
Roofman tells the tale of Jeffrey Manchester during his life of crime as the Roofman. He doesn’t have many skills, but his ability of observation is unmatched. So, to try and give his daughter a better life, he turns to a life of crime. stealing from local McDonald’s, he ends up with quite a lot of money until he’s finally caught. He then escaped prison and started a new life living in the roof of a Toys R Us. In this life, he can finally be someone different until his past catches up to him.
I really enjoyed this movie. Channing Tatum did a great job portraying Jeffrey and showing all sides of him. he is fun, goofy, and nice, but he has flaws. He never NEEDED to turn to a life of crime, but he got greedy. wanting to shower those he loved with gifts and a better lifestyle when all they ever wanted was him and his time. It sounds like a bit of a cheesy moral, but it’s true. The movie has great pacing, and although we are following Jeff’s story through about half a year, many things happen, and I was never bored as we see him try to survive and almost create a new life for himself before his flaws start to show once again.
Because it’s based on a true story, at the end, they showcase pictures from the movie and their real-life counterparts. It’s crazy to see that pretty much all the things that happened actually took place. The early 2000s were a different time. Overall, I think this movie is worth watching. It will make you laugh, cry, and cringe, and the fact that it’s based on a true story makes it even the more crazy.
