A wave of community action is building following the announcement from Northwestern Polytechnic (NWP) about the closure of its Fairview campus at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year.
Local residents and stakeholders are banding together in an effort to show decision-makers that the region stands firmly behind the community campus that has been a cornerstone of northern Alberta education for decades.
Organizers have launched a grassroots letter-writing campaign under the banner “Save NWP Fairview Campus”, calling on area residents and businesses to take an active role in the fight.
“Our communities thrive when we stand together — and right now, Fairview needs your voice,” reads the campaign statement circulating on social media.
The initiative encourages Peace Country businesses to host letter-writing stations where customers and staff can stop in to sign pre-written advocacy letters. Signed letters will be collected and delivered to the NWP Board of Governors and provincial elected representatives by mid-November.
The campaign’s goal is clear: demonstrate to decision-makers that closing the Fairview Campus would have far-reaching consequences for the region’s workforce, families, and future growth.
“The NWP Fairview Campus has been a cornerstone for education, opportunity, and community development in the North,” said one local organizer. “We want to make sure it stays that way.”
Businesses wishing to participate can register by emailing savenwpfairview@gmail.com to receive printable PDF letter templates and hosting instructions.
Copies of the letters and campaign materials are also being shared through community social media pages and comment threads.
Supporters say this is about more than saving a school — it’s about protecting the economic and educational heart of the Peace Country.
“Together, we can show that the Peace Country stands united — and that we won’t let our campus go without a fight,” the campaign statement concludes.
