Cree Ative Datacenter Corp GP is proposing a new natural gas–fired power-generating facility approximately 40 kilometres northeast of Peace River to support a planned data centre development.
According to project documents, the facility would have a production capacity of up to 650 megawatts and is designed to operate for an estimated 30 years. The project would be built in two stages, beginning with simple-cycle natural gas turbine technology and later converting to combined-cycle technology to improve efficiency.
The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) has launched an early engagement process and is inviting Indigenous Peoples and members of the public to review the summary of the Initial Project Description and provide feedback.
IAAC says comments should draw on local, regional, or Indigenous Knowledge of the project area or surrounding environment, or include any other relevant information that could support the assessment process. Feedback will help the agency prepare a summary of key issues, determine whether a federal impact assessment is required, and define the scope of any further review.
Public participation is being facilitated through the Canadian Impact Assessment Registry under reference number 90036.
Interested individuals can submit comments online until 11:59 p.m. on January 22, 2026. Information on applying for participation funding is also available, with applications due by February 2, 2026.
A virtual information session is scheduled for January 14, where participants can learn more about the proposed project, the assessment process, and how to submit comments. Members of the public can also sign up for project updates through the registry.
Those seeking additional information or wishing to provide input in an alternative format can contact IAAC at Mihta-Askiy@iaac-aeic.gc.ca. All submissions received will be published online as part of the official project file. Questions related to the Participation Funding Program can be directed to fp-paf@iaac-aeic.gc.ca or by calling 1-866-582-1884.
