Viersen Optimistic For More Oil Pipelines

Getting more oil pipelines built across the country will continue to be a main priority for Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen.

While Prime Minister Mark Carney has talked about having more projects approved, Viersen says quote “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

“I am an eternal optimist and so I’m always ready to push for it. Mark Carney has said the right things to us and to people who want pipelines, but then to other people he says there’s no actual projects yet and things like that. It’s a matter of jumping through those hoops that he’s putting in place to get a project approved, but I’m certain that we’ll be able to push for it.”

Global oil markets have been affected this week by the events in Venezuela which Viersen says should lead to more urgency for getting Canadian oil to global markets.

“If the Americans can divert away from Canadian oil to Venezuelan oil, that will have a big impact on our abilities to continue to finance this country. That is a big worry for a lot of people and now more than ever, we need to get those pipelines built.”
