- Peavey Mart stores are continuing to re-open in various locations.
Two stores in Saskatchewan and one in Red Deer, are expected to re-open in the Spring, but still no word as to the re-opening of the stores in Peace River, or in High Prairie. -
Police in Alberta were busy making sure residents were having a safe holiday season.
Between Christmas and New Year’s, nearly 1,000 tickets were handed out, including many in the Peace Region. - From the RCMP’s Weekly Wanted File, police in the area are looking for Jordan Ross Laboucan.
His last known whereabouts was in Atikameg, and he’s noted for activities in Cadotte Lake, Simon Lake, Northern Sunrise County, and Atikameg. - Getting more oil pipelines built across the country will continue to be a main priority for Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen.
While Prime Minister Mark Carney has talked about having more projects approved, Viersen says quote “I’ll believe it when I see it.” (Interview in separate story) - Alberta’s measles surge sparked more than 2,000 cases in 2025 and, while transmission has dropped dramatically, experts warn the virus remains a threat in 2026.

Edmonton is in Winnipeg, Calgary is in Boston, Vancouver is in Detroit, Florida is in Montreal, Toronto is in Philadelphia, and Ottawa is in Colorado. - Glenn Hall played over 20 seasons in the NHL with Detroit, Chicago and St. Louis, winning the Stanley Cup twice as a player, and once as a coach.He passed away yesterday in Hospice in Stony Plain. Glenn Hall was 94 years of age.

Today’s highs are -8 in the Big Lakes, -12 in the Peace and -20 in the Mackenzie.
The weekend and early next week will bring warmer temperatures, and lots of sunshine.
