High Level potentially upgrading infrastructure

At the February 9, 2026, Regular Meeting, the Town of High Level Council addressed several key issues:

Rezoning Approval for Truck Stop Development

Council conducted a public hearing on Bylaw 1067-26, proposing the rezoning of an industrial area to highway commercial to facilitate a new truck stop, fuel station, convenience store, and motel. Administration confirmed the project’s compatibility with surrounding land uses and compliance with statutory plans. One resident opposed the rezoning, citing concerns about wildfire risks and safety near electrical infrastructure. Despite this, Council approved the bylaw’s second and third readings, finalizing the rezoning.

Approval of 2024 Audited Financial Statements

The Town’s independent auditor presented the 2024 financial statements, issuing a clean audit opinion with no material errors or fraud. The audit highlighted strong internal controls, an improved unrestricted surplus, and approximately $106 million in tangible capital assets. Council approved the financial statements, now available on the Town’s website.

Adoption of Trails and Active Transportation Master Plan

Council reviewed and adopted the Trails and Active Transportation Master Plan, outlining a long-term vision for enhancing community sidewalks and trails. Priorities include safe routes to schools, improved downtown connectivity, and phased infrastructure upgrades. The plan, initiated in 2021, has now been completed.
