Pink Shirt Day Observed Today

pink-shirt-day-jpg-3
Today (February 25) marks Pink Shirt Day, an annually recognized anti-bullying awareness day observed across Canada.
Pink Shirt Day started back in 2007 in Nova Scotia, when two high school students — David Shepherd and Travis Price — organized a show of support for a Grade 9 boy who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt at school. After learning what had happened, the students purchased dozens of pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear them the next day. Hundreds participated in a powerful message of inclusion.  This act of kindness quickly grew into today’s nationwide initiative.
Pink Shirt Day is aimed at raising awareness about bullying and cyberbullying, while promoting kindness, inclusion and empathy. The day also encourages people to lift each other up and create safe, supportive environments.
This year’s theme is “Sprinkle Kindness” – encouraging everyone to show how small acts of kindness can make a big difference.
Individuals across schools, workplaces and community organizations are taking part today by wearing pink.
