RCMP Update – 12-Noon (May 20)

High Prairie RCMP are investigating a reported school threat linked to a TikTok video seen by several students Tuesday morning.

Police say the post suggested a possible incident could happen Friday, but no specific school was named.

RCMP officers, along with regional investigative units, are working to identify who created the video and determine whether the threat is credible.

In the meantime, there will be an increased police presence at local schools.

RCMP say they understand the stress these threats can cause and remind parents that school attendance decisions are up to families and what they feel is safest.

More information will be released as it becomes available.

Authorities in High Prairie are investigating a possible social media threat involving E.W. Pratt School Division and High Prairie Elementary School.

According to a statement from Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) Superintendent Victoria Cornick, RCMP are actively investigating the matter. As a precaution, police officers will have an increased presence at all High Prairie schools, including HFCRD’s St. Andrew’s School.

Cornick says school staff continue to follow established safety protocols, and all schools remain open with classes proceeding as usual.

“We ask our school community to remain calm and trust that the proper authorities are handling this situation with care,” Cornick said in the release. “We are grateful for the presence and support of local law enforcement as we work to keep our students, staff, and families safe.”

Additional updates are expected as more information becomes available.
