The provincial government has 349 transportation projects on the go for the 2017-18 fiscal year.
They include provincial highway, bridge and water projects, with the New Democrats say will support over 75-hundred jobs province-wide.
In a news release, Transportation Minister Brian Mason says that the projects will also help improve critical infrastructure across Alberta.
“Our government is investing in key infrastructure to help strengthen the economy, support job-creation and improve the services Alberta families count on,” said Mason. “And so far, our plan is working. We’ve invested $1.4-billion in critical road, bridge and water infrastructure projects this year, which will support an estimated 44-hundred good-paying construction jobs, plus 31-hundred indirect jobs.”
Funding for each of the infrastructure projects comes from the Alberta government’s $29.5-billlion capital plan.
A couple of highlights of the 2017 construction season include the new Peace River bridge, as well as a Highway 43X bypass in Grande Prairie.
During the current construction season, the province says that nearly 15-hundred kilometres of two-lane highway was paved or widened province-wide, and 82 bridges and large culverts were replaced, repaired or constructed.
