- The biggest fire in the region remains the Semo Complex Fire on the Little Red River Cree Nation, which is classified as out of control at more than 96,000 hectares in size.
People have been out of their homes in Garden River, Fox Lake and John D’or Prairie for several weeks now. - Parks Canada officials say they’re making progress on battling the blazes in Jasper National Park.
Crews were busy on several fronts, with the Canadian Armed Forces mopping up spot fires on the northwest side of the town of Jasper. - The transfer of St. Thomas More School in Fairview to the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division is still waiting for approval.
The Division is just waiting for the Ministerial Order to be approved, which is to take effect on September 1st. - Fairview’s Emergency Department is dealing with no Doctor at the Health Complex again this week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will have no physician on-site.
As well, Saturday through Tuesday will only be dealing with nursing staff for initial triage. - Schedules are being finalized for the 2024 Wheatbelt Baseball League final. The Rycroft Rage will play the Manning Mets for the title.
The Mets are looking for their first-ever League Championship, while the Rage look for their eighth championship in the last 14 seasons. - The Toronto Blue Jays play a double-header today in Baltimore. Yariel Rodriguez starts Game 1 this afternoon, Bowden Francis starts Game 2 tonight.
- Canada continues their journey in Paris at the 2024 Olympics. Christa Deguchi of Lethbridge has won Gold in the Women’s 57 kilogram class in Judo.
The gold medal goes along with a silver and two bronze to sit 9th on the table. - Showers are a possibility in the Peace and Big Lakes this afternoon. Showers are a reality in the Mackenzie, with 10-15mm to fall.
Digits are in the low 20’s, with lows around 10 degrees tonight. Sunshine with numbers in the mid 20’s are expected tomorrow, and for the rest of the week.
