The three-month pilot project with APEX Security to provide 24/7 patrol services is nearing an end this month.
This project was initiated to address social disorder, public nuisances, and encampment concerns in the community.
When this project ends, Council will be determining the next steps for the Town.
Whether or not Council decides to continue with enhanced public security in addition to policing services, there will be a period of time without this security coverage.
➡️ Effective October 16, calls for service involving social disorder, public nuisances, and encampment concerns will need to be directed to the RCMP.
Emergencies should always go to 911, while non-emergency issues can be directed to the office line at (780) 624-6677. Minor crimes (under $5k) can be reported online at https://ocre-sielc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/alberta
Council is seeking funding support from the Alberta Government to assist in the cost of providing enhanced public security services.
The APEX Security pilot project started July 15 and is running until October 15, 2024. You can read more about it here: https://www.peaceriver.ca/…/apex-security-pilot-program
