This week is Alberta Forest Week.
And the Peace River Wildfire Region has some activities planned for the week.
According to Wildfire Information Officer Crystal Burrows, each school in the area will be handing out three seedlings to students in Grade One.

“Traditionally, the provincial government’s provided 70-thousand seedlings to each of the Grade Ones throughout the province,” said Burrows. “They’ll be distributed this week.
“As well, we also have seedlings available at each of our offices,” she continued. “They include at the Manning forestry office, as well as at the provincial buildings in both Fairview and Peace River.”
As well, Burrows says their Abor day event is actually taking place next week, on Wednesday, May 17 from 12 Noon until 2 PM at the Normand Boucher Arboretum, located right across from Good Shephard School in Peace River.
“It’s open to anyone who’d like to come,” said Burrows. “We’ll have a number of different stations available, including some about firefighting, as well as about forest health. As well, we will have a light snack available for those who wish to attend”
