Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) have recently revised its Organizing Local Food Events in Alberta booklet.
Farmers’ Market Specialist Eileen Kotowich said in a news release that Albertans often organize events across the province.
“Food is usually one aspect of these events,” said Kotowich. “A local food event features foods grown and prepared close to the event location.”
She adds that extra effort is often required to source out local ingredients.
Events can be a single meeting with one caterer specializing in local foods. But, it can also be something more complex, like multi-day food festivals with a variety of dishes.
“This newly revised publication explains a variety of formats for presenting local foods to guests,” said Kotowich. “It also discusses the challenges of sourcing the best ingredients and shares tips learned from past events.”
The newly-revised booklet covers a variety of topics, including defining local, creating an asset list, the target audience, as well as financial support.
“With creativity and energy, you can ensure that great food events are possible,” Kotowich continued. “There is growing enthusiasm for all things locally-grown.”
The fact-sheet is available on the AF website. But if you prefer a hard copy, you can obtain one from AF’s publications office by phone at 780-427-0391, or by email at publications.office@gov.ab.ca.
