August 23, 2021 – With school less than a week away for students in the Peace River School Division, what does it mean for them going back into the classroom?

PRSD released their School Re-entry Plan prior to school being back in session to give parents/guardians and students a glimpse into what the upcoming school year will look like.

Incoming Superintendent, Adam Murray is excited for the school year to start and wants parents know what is going to be expected. “We are still are requiring parents to have the Alberta Health Daily Checklist done everyday and we require staff to do so as well.” Murray says masking is no longer necessary in school but will be supported if staff, students and teachers wish to continue to wear one.

Masks will be required for all people while riding a school bus, and the rule will be re-assessed by the province on or before September 27, 2021. Masks are not needed in schools, but it may be recommended for a short period of time if there’s a respiratory illness outbreak in a school and all persons will have to wear a mask if they develop respiratory illness symptoms while at school.

For sanitization practices:

  • Schools will continue to provide hand sanitizer
  • Each school will be cleaned two times a week with an electrostatic fogging machine
  • Maintain enhanced cleaning measures
  • Have masks available on PRSD buses, schools and facilities

School activity will be going to go back to normal including: assemblies, field trips, sports, competitions, performances and graduation ceremonies. Murray says PRSD is following Alberta Health and provincial guidelines. “Our students need to be in an environment where they can work with other kids and be taught by our staff and take part in extracurricular activities.” Murray says as long as the province says it’s okay to do so, students in the PRSD will have the opportunity to engage in activities.
