September 9, 2021 – The Peace Country Beef and Forage Association is in the midst of harvesting around the Peace Country like other farmers, but on a smaller scale with research plots instead of fields.

We had the chance to speak with PCBFA Interim Operations Manager, Kaitlin McLachlan this week for the River Country Ag Show and catch up on what’s happening with the PCBFA.

In our conversation, McLachlan noted on the events they are holding in September that are being done virtually. She highlighted:

  • Virtual Cattle Market Outlook Evening – September 11 at 6:30 p.m.
    • Free to attend, log on to Zoom to hear a Cattle Market Update from Brian Perilatt, and a talk on Wildlife Management from Dr Ryan Brook. As well as a quick intro to CAFA from Katie McLachlan! Contact Johanna, 780-523-4033 or johanna@pcbfa.ca for more information.
  • Beef Nutrition 101 Webinar Series
    • September 21, September 28 & October 5: join in on Zoom Tuesdays to learn with beef vets and nutritionists, discussing the basics of feed testing and Beef cattle nutrition. For more information on the webinar series, when they start and how to attend, click here!

McLachlan also delved into the newly announced $340 million AgriRecovery Program payment through the 2021 Canada-Alberta Livestock Feed Assistance Initiative to help cover feed and water access costs for breeding female livestock across the province. While McLachlan explained the program, it is administered through Agriculture Financial Services Corporation and program terms and conditions are posted on AFSC’s website.

You can hear the full conversation with Kaitlin McLachlan down below and by tuning into the River Country Ag Show every weekday during the noon hour!
