Alberta is the coldest place in Canada (and almost the world!)

The province has taken over most of the coldest places in the world list as of December 27 at 1:00 p.m.

Out of the top 15 most frigid places on Earth, Alberta has 9 of them:

  • #2 – Grande Prairie at -40*C
  • #5 – Edson at -36*C
  • #6 – Whitecourt at -35*C
  • #9 – Calgary at -34*C
  • #10 – Vegreville at -33.8*C
  • #11 – Sundre at -33.3C
  • #12 – High Level at -33C
  • #14 – Edmonton at -33C
  • #15 – Three Hills at -32.4C

Temperatures are not recorded with the wind chill, which is reaching -40 to -55 over the entire province.

Environment Canada has issued extreme cold warnings blanketing the entire province of Alberta, most of the interior and northern British Columbia and the bottom half of Saskatchewan.

The cold is expected to stay at -30 levels in Peace River until the end of 2021.
