The debate on what to name the water-body north of Fairview on the east side of Highway 732 has come to a conclusion.

Ruby’s Pond is the new name for the body of water between the Cummings Lake Recreation Area entrance and Fairview Golf Club.

Council made the executive decision at their most recent council meeting on March 1, 2022. Mayor Gord MacLeod spoke on the topic saying “At the council meeting we looked at the results of what the survey showed and what social media said… and council decided to go with Ruby’s Pond.” MacLeod said  it seemed like most people would have chose the option if it was an option on the online survey.

The name pays tribute to the late Ruby Goertzen, who served the community for a number of years up until her passing in January 2021 at the age of 75. Ruby owned “Ruby’s Variety Shoppe” in the Mall on Main in Fairview and helped the community in countless ways.

MacLeod said the Recreation Advisory Board will now have to determine if or how they want to go about an unveiling, plaque and other items or action for Ruby’s Pond.
