Peace River RCMP lay charges following traffic stop

Peace River, Alta. – On May 17, 2023 at 7:40 p.m., Peace River RCMP were conducting proactive patrols of the downtown Peace River area, when a traffic stop was initiated with a vehicle bearing what was later determined to be a stolen license plate.  Investigation led to the arrest of several of the occupants on outstanding warrants. During a search incidental to arrest RCMP located:

  • A loaded stolen handgun
  • Ammunition
  • An edged weapon
  • Amounts of  suspected cocaine and methamphetamine
  • Canadian currency and gift cards of a value over $4,700.00.

As a result of the investigation, Eugene L’HIRONDELLE (37), a resident of McLennan, Alberta, Travis CARDINAL (33), a resident of Edmonton, Alberta, David TESTAWICH (42), a resident of Peace River, Alberta, Destiny ALOOK (25), a resident of Fox Lake, Alberta, and Bobbie-Jo DUPUIS (44), a resident of Grimshaw, Alberta have been jointly charged with:

  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking (x2)
  • Possession of a restricted firearm without holding a license under which they may possess it (x2)
  • Weapons offences (x6)
  • Possession of ammunition while prohibited (x4)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x2)

L’HIRONDELLE, TESTAWICH and CARDINAL are both further charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm while prohibited
  • Possession of ammunition while prohibited

All accused were brought before a Justice of the Peace for the purposes of a judicial interim release hearing.  CADRINAL and L’HIRONDELLE have been remanded into custody pending the outcome of a subsequent bail hearing.  CARDINAL is scheduled to appear in the Edmonton Court of Justice on May 19, 2023.  The remaining accused were release on bail and are next scheduled to appear in the Peace River Court of Justice on May 29, 2023.
