Some daycare operators in the Peace Region are taking part in a series of rolling closures starting today.
The Association of Alberta Childcare Entrepreneurs says the decision for the closures “stems from the critical need to address the significant underfunding and inflexibility of the $10/day childcare program”.
Their statement also says “the closures symbolize a stand against policies that risk creating divides among children and potentially harming their social and emotional development.”
Daycare operators say they feel they must take action to put pressure on the UCP government.
They say the program’s structure puts operators in a tough financial position, as daycare owners are expected to wait more than a month for reimbursement.
