  1. Holdover fires are still burning, especially in the Mackenzie region because of the size of fire, and the dry conditions this winter.

  2. Members of the Woodland Cree First Nation are concerned about industrial operations in the area possibly causing the earthquakes a year ago.
    A series of tremours, including one measured at 5.6, were felt over a four-month period between November of 2022 and last March.
  3. The Alberta government launched a new tourism strategy, aimed at achieving its goal of reaching $25 billion in yearly visitor spending by 2035.
    The new strategy aims to grow tourism opportunities in rural communities, increase air and road access, expand and diversify tourism products and ease labour shortages.
  4. 36 law professors, legal researchers and staff from two Alberta universities are asking the province to reconsider policy changes affecting transgender youth.
    Premier Danielle Smith has said the fall sitting of the legislature would bring new rules, including restrictions on youth changing their names or pronouns at school, as well as on hormone treatment and surgery for gender affirmation.
  5. Starting in April, a family of four will receive $450 quarterly – $1,800 in total – from the Canada Carbon Rebate, formerly known as the Climate Action Incentive Payment.
    The federal government said it changed the name to “clarify its function, and make its meaning and relationship to the carbon pricing system more intuitive for Canadians.”
  6. Immersive Disney Animation will open at the Edmonton Expo Centre, bringing movies and music to life through interactive exhibits and featuring 360-degree projections, special effects and responsive flooring.
  7. One person was killed and 22 others were injured during the KC Chiefs victory parade yesterday.
    Hundreds of thousands attended the victory parade after the Chief beat San Fransisco in Super Bowl LVIII (58).

    Lows at night might still be a little cool into the -20’s, but still quite pleasent for star-gazing, and possibly northern lights spotting.
