  1. A 42 year-old man from Sucker Creek has been given life in prison. Travis Myles Melnyk was found guilty of first degree murder from an incident in November of 2021.
    Melnyk was originally charged with second-degree murder and unlawful confinement. He’s also been banned from using firearms for life.
  2. The lack of precipitation, the dry conditions, the busy season last year, and fires still active in the area, had the Wildfire season starting on February 20th, and not today.

  3. Grimshaw Town Council has been involved in meetings regarding the possibility of a Nuclear Power Plant Project being developed in the region.
    The MD of Peace, Peace River MLA Dan Williams, the Grimshaw Chamber, and the Lac Cardinal Regional Economic Development Board have been in these discussions.
  4. Now is the time to be mindful and responsible, Alberta’s government said yesterday, as it reported a $367 million surplus on this year’s budget.
    Finance Minister Nate Horner announced billions in spending across various social sectors including healthcare, education, and water and wastewater.
  5. The Alberta government is giving an update on new school construction a day after releasing Budget 2024.
    According to the capital plan, $507 million is allocated for previously announced school projects next year, while just $85 million is earmarked for school capital projects.
  6. A state funeral will be held later this month for former prime minister Brian Mulroney, who died Thursday at 84.
    Mulroney was the leader of the Progressive Conservative party in the 1980s and was prime minister for nearly nine years between 1984 and 1993.
