I go and see a lot of movies. Usually about one every week. There have been some that have stood out amongst the rest. These might not be objectively the best…there is award shows for that, but these are my top movies of this year!
1. Sonic the Hedgehog 3
This movie is great. there was action, comedy, and great fanservice. if you have played the games they did a great job showing love to the franchise and bringing in new fans as well, I am a fan of the franchise so that probably contributed to my love of it but i do really love the direction that their taking these movies. They did set it up at the end to continue with a 4th film which I am completely on board with!
2. The Wild Robot
An amazing film for the whole family. We get a heartfelt tale about a mother and son and it made me tear up…movies don’t usually make me do that. The soundtrack is wonderful and the animation style is so beautiful. I love this movie!
3. Deadpool & Wolverine
An action comedy masterpiece. Rounding out a Deadpool trilogy this movie has Ryan Renolds bringing the comedy and jokes to another level. introducing Hugh Jackman’s wolverine into the mix was so wonderful. Their chemistry and dynamic on screen was just a joy to watch. There were other unexpected cameos and fun nods…like Madonna music! I’ve seen this one multiple times and you pick up on different jokes each time.
4. Abigail
This movie does my favourite thing of having g a group of people try and survive a thing. each character had their motivations and personality portrayed well…until they got taken out by a ballerina vampire. its a crazy movie done really well.
5. Civil War
This movie is a bit more on the somber side but really left an impression. It showcased a lot of the horror of war and what can happen that isn’t your typical front line battles. A great interesting watch that I’m still thinking about.
6. Alien: Romulus
Alien is a classic. So, getting to go back to that world is a treat. This movie introduces some great concepts and plays off of the things already established in the franchise fantastically. With a new cast having to deal with the alien it was interesting to see a different approach.
7. Smile 2

Version 1.0.0
I’m always looking for something to scare me and smile 2 built upon the last entry to get even better. Their were plot twists I wasn’t expecting, scares and scenes that made me legitimately uncomfortable, all to make a great horror movie.
8. Inside Out 2
Building upon the first one this has another great tale showcasing how our emotions work. This time dealing with anxiety. A great representation of the feeling and how people have to live with it.
9. The Beekeeper
A great Jason Statham action film. He’s a trained killer killing cyber scammers after they scammed an old lady. The actions great, the motivations are just, and by the end of the movie the president’s involved. Amazing!
10. Kung Fu Panda 4
I know this one might be a bit controversial because it’s probably not the best Kung Fu Panda movie. Despite that, I still enjoyed it. I’m still thinking about it. It does have it’s flaws by excluding major cast members and having a few story issues but I still love it and the story they did tell was fun and I’m a sucker for a good rogue redemption story.
