    32 year-old Dion Alexander was reported missing on Monday and authorities are worried for his well-being.
  3. The town of Grimshaw is flourishing, and is optimistic for the year that lies ahead.

  4. Albertans who drive fully electric vehicles will have to pay an extra $200 when they renew their annual vehicle registrations, starting early this new year.
    The EV tax is one of two new provincial tax increases to take effect this year, the other being a tax on vaping products.
  5. Alberta’s electricity “rate of last resort” started yesterday, replacing the province’s previous default rate for consumers who don’t have a contract.
    The rate is set at about 12 cents per kilowatt hour until 2027. It’s meant to shield against price spikes, as the previous option fluctuated from month to month.
  6. Environment Canada’s use of Celsius turns 50 years old in 2025.
    It was the catalyst of a lengthy national metric conversion that abruptly ended a decade after it began.
  7. The NWJHL has announced all-star teams for their upcoming showcase.
    Team members include Corey Issac, Tyson Tokarz, Jack Jones, Matias Baumann and Head Coach Jody Menssa of North Peace.
    Marcus Pickup, William Perron, Hunter Burns, Jake Klassen and Kalib Minnes of Fairview.
    And Cole Penner, Carter Fehr, Eric Giesbrecht, Jacob Paul, Rydley Gerbrandt, and Head Coach Dion Knelsen of La Crete.
    The NWHJHL all-star game is January 19th in Sexsmith.
  8. Five Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight…
    Utah is in Calgary, Vancouver is in Seattle, Anaheim is in Winnipeg, Toronto plays at the Islanders, and Ottawa is in Dallas.
  9. World Junior Hockey Championships in Ottawa… Latvia plays Sweden, Switzerland plays the USA, Slovakia plays Finland, and Czechia play Canada.
  10. Extreme Cold Warnings are on the horizon for at least the Peace and Mackenzie, heading into the first weekend of 2025.
    Highs this afternoon are in the -20’s, and will be throughout the weekend.
    Lows tonight nudging -30, and even -35 in the Peace, with Wind Chills deep into the -40’s, thus the potential warnings.
    Digits start warming up a little Monday night and into Tuesday of next week.
