The Transportation Safety Board of Canada reported that an engine failure shortly after takeoff contributed to a helicopter crash during a 2023 wildfire in northern Alberta.

The pilot, Ryan Gould, was assisting firefighting efforts in the Peace River region and had an empty water bucket attached to a 45-meter line.

After experiencing a mechanical issue, he attempted to return to base.

During the descent, the bucket became entangled in trees, leading to a loss of control.

Although Gould managed to disconnect the line, the helicopter crashed nose-first.

He survived the initial impact but succumbed to his injuries later.
