- Police in the Northwest Territories have laid murder and attempted murder charges against a 22 year-old BC man, who remains at large.
Krystian Cogswell is considered armed and dangerous by police, who say he has fled and has likely made his way to points south of the Territory. - Officials in Grimshaw are granting Development Permits to have new businesses come to town.
Permits have been given for future endeavours like a Coffee Roaster, Bookkeeping Office, a Tire Shop, and a Mechanical Shop, among others. - The Holy Family Catholic Regional Division has approved their three-year facility Capital Plan.
The first priority is the new school to replace St. Andrew’s in High Prairie. The second is the modernization of Good Shephard School in Peace River. - Premier Danielle Smith has sworn in three new Parliamentary Secretaries to support key initiatives.
One new secretary is Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck, who takes over the role of Parliamentary Secretary for Indigenous and Rural Policing.
The position was held by Lesser Slave Lake MLA Scott Sinclair, who was removed from caucus earlier this month, for his comments on the Budget. - The advocation of issues are being talked about with key Ministers of the Provincial Government. (Layne Gardner interview in separate story)
Members of the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce participated in a Political Action Day in Edmonton, discussing issues involved in the Northwest. - Employers and job seekers will be busy today in Grimshaw with the Grimshaw Business Expo and Hiring Fair taking place. - Canada is possibly getting prepared to go to the polls. It is expected that the writ on Parliament is to be dropped sometime on Sunday, thus forcing an election to be called.
Possible dates to head to the polls are April 28th, or May 5th. - Final preperations are being made for the U-18-C Provincial hockey Championship, coming to Peace River next weekend.
Eights teams are participating in the Tournament at the Baytex Energy Center.
The teams are coming from Barrhead, Mayerthorpe, Sherwood Park, Devon, Calgary, New Sarepta, and Valleyview.
NWJHL Finals this weekend… La Crete is in Fort St John, with Game 3 tonight, Game 4 is tomorrow, and Game 5, if necessary, is on Sunday. La Crete leads 2-0. - NPHL Finals this weekend… tonight Game 5 Falher is in Manning, the Pirates lead 3-1. Game 6 is necessary, is Saturday in Falher.
- AJHL playoffs start this weekend… Lloydminster is in Grande Prairie, Game 1 is tonight, Game 2 is tomorrow.
- A slight chance of precipitation is forecasted for the Northwest this weekend.
The Mackenzie could see some snow on Saturday, but the digits will be getting warmer into next week. Tuesday is forecasted as the warmest, with number pushing 10 degrees.
