Over the Labour Day long weekend, from August 29 to September 1, Alberta RCMP intensified traffic safety enforcement across the province, resulting in 1,661 infractions.
Officers issued 789 speeding tickets, 34 for distracted driving, and 19 for seatbelt violations.
Additionally, 99 impaired drivers were removed from the roads, with 70 receiving Immediate Roadside Sanction (IRS) FAILs and 19 receiving IRS WARNs.
Tragically, 54 collisions caused injuries, leading to four fatalities.
Sgt. Darrin Turnbull of Alberta RCMP Traffic emphasized that “fatal motor vehicle collisions are often avoidable” and urged drivers to avoid impaired driving and adjust travel plans according to road conditions.
The Alberta RCMP reminds everyone that traffic safety is a shared responsibility and encourages reporting dangerous driving by calling 911.
