The Sacred Heart Community Health Centre is dropping the number of acute care beds to 15, down from 20. Alberta Health Services says the bed closures stem from a staffing shortage and will last until September 7, 2021.
Patient care will not be affected as there is sufficient bed capacity at this time. Only 8 of the now 15 beds are currently in use by admitted patients.
AHS says resources are often adjusted to align with staffing levels when workforce levels are low due to staff and physician vacations. The temporary bed closures are in place to make sure patients at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre will continue to receive safe, high-quality care.
AHS will reopen the five closed beds before Sept. 7 if the staffing issue is resolved earlier than expected.
