ATB Financial says rumours of the death of Alberta jobs are greatly exaggerated for the moment. They say despite crude oil hovering around the 55 dollar US a barrel mark last month; our province actually saw a reasonable increase in employment. Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey says this province added about 57-hundred jobs last month, right on the average for monthly job creation over the entire year. Quality was good too: 84-hundred full-time jobs created, with about 27-hundred part-time positions gone. And while unemployment ticked up to 4.7 percent, it’s still well within the range of a healthy job market. ATB says with the nervous tone rippling across Alberta’s economy and with oil companies cutting their capital spending, it’s difficult to explain the upbeat job report.
