Alberta Health Services has issued a blue-green algae advisory for Footner Lake near High Level.
An algae bloom has been identified in areas of the lake.
Residents living near the shores of the lake, as well as visitors, are asked to avoid all contact with the algae blooms, and to not swim or wade in areas where the algae is visible.
People who come in contact with visible blue-green algae or who ingest water containing blue-green algae may experience several symptoms, such as skin irritation, rash, sore throat, sore red eyes, swollen lips, fever, nausea and vomiting and/or diarrhea.
Areas of the lake where algae is not visible can still be used for recreational purposes.
