Notice of ATCO maintenance and repair work
ATCO will be installing temporary equipment (a tank) at the Peace River Gate 2 facility (8402 94 St, Peace River, AB, T8S 1G1) as part of an ongoing effort to address issues
currently affecting the performance of the station and distribution system. Note that these performance issues do not impact the safety of the community or onsite workers.
Scope of Work
Oil has been found within the station and distribution pipeline system. To mitigate this issue, ATCO will install temporary equipment at the facility, including an above-ground tank (approximately 44″ in length). Due to space limitations and the nature of the area, the tank will likely be placed directly onto the green space south of the station. Temporary fencing will be installed if necessary to contain the construction area.
Timeline and Operations
– Sub-contractor, Marler Integrity, will mobilize on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024, with plans to set up and commission the tank on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024.
– The temporary equipment will remain operational for at least three months, or until ATCO is confident that no further oil is being captured.
– During this time, the tank will be drained periodically, which may require additional vehicles (e.g., hydrovac trucks) to dispose of contaminants safely.
Impact on the Community
– Natural gas supply to the Town of Peace River will not be impacted by this installation.
– The area may experience increased vehicle traffic during the draining of the tank. All operations will be conducted with a high degree of safety to prevent spills, releases of
natural gas or environmental contamination. To prepare for maintenance work, there may also be periodic flaring to safely depressurize the piping. Noise is expected to be minimal and where possible, primarily conducted during daytime hours from Monday to Friday.
