
49,030 babies were born in the province during 2020 with 25,160 boys and 23,870 girls.
For an unprecedented eighth straight year, Olivia was the top name for girls born in our province. Noah took the top boys names for the third time in the past four years.
Throughout Alberta, there are many diverse families and the names of some of the newest babies in the province reflect diversity with girl names like Amara, Amaya, Zahra, Zoya, Baani, Danika, Raya, Thalia, Yuna and Chimamanda. Many boys names like Mateo, Ahmed, Bodhi, Yusuf, Zorawar, Arjun, Gurbaaz, Miguel, Abdul and Idris also reflected the vast amount of diversity in the province.
