Celebrity sports ownership has become a major thing, LeBron James co-owns many teams as a part of the Fenway Group, Magic Johnson is part owner of a group that is close to buying the Washington Commanders (NFL), John Candy and Wayne Gretzky co owned the Toronto Argonauts (CFL) just to name a few and now it appears two celebrities want to be part of the ownership group of the Ottawa Senators.
We have known for sometime that Ryan Reynolds who co owns the Wrexham A.F.C. (with actor Rob McElhenney) has had interest in becoming a part owner of the Ottawa Senators but now another celebrity appears to want in and to the surprise of many it is Snoop Dogg. The Dogg Father announced on his Instagram account that he is joining a bid led by Los Angeles-based producer Neko Sparks.
Snoop has said on the show First Take he wants kids to know they can play hockey if they look like him, speaking of his skin colour stating, “The kids need to know that there is an option to play hockey if you look like me.” Snoop also stated he wants to build a “Snoop Youth Hockey League” as well. The plan is for it to be outside of Canada to expand the sport.
Snoop is a hockey fan and is known at times to join live game broadcasts doing play by play to the enjoyment of many.
Ryan Reynolds has been attached to a potential bid from real estate developers Remington Group to purchase the team.
Bids are open until May 15th so it remains to be seen who will prevail if either one will, but the NHL has expressed pleasure with a celebrity owner when Reynolds announced his intentions.
