Several Town of Peace River officials made a presentation at a recent Rotary Club meeting yesterday. The topic of discussion was its revised plan for its Baytex Energy Multiplex. Councillor Tanin Behnke says the contractors they hired revealed the renovations of ice surfaces at their current location are not viable, which she says pushed back the project a little bit behind schedule. At this point, she says the recreational needs assessment is currently at play, adding their municipal partners will indicate their level of support for the project based on what the results of the assessment are. Behnke says while council would prefer that the process go a lot quicker, she says everything does need its due process. As it comes to the project, she says they have a very aggressive timetable. Behnke says council was told the current arena currently has about a 3 to 5 year life span in terms of their ice plant. She says right now, their plan is to have construction begin next year, but she says it depends on financials, as well as regional cooperation.
